Number of trekkers, mountaineers declined by 11.65 pc

The number of trekkers and mountaineers to Nepal has declined by 11.65 percent during the fiscal year 2010/11.

According to Economic Survey 2011, the number of tourists coming for these two popular tourism products of the country has declined from 20.9 percent recorded the previous fiscal year.

Similarly, the average length of tourists stay in the country has increased by 12.67 days in last fiscal year.

The earning form the tourism sector has also increased marginally by 0.1 percent while tourist arrival was up by 18.21 during the period.

As per the survey, with the increment in the tourist arrival 45 tourist hotels and 1,549 beds were added during the period.

The number of tourists coming for pilgrimage has also increased by 16.81 percent compared to last fiscal year when it had increased by 10.4 percent.
